Could it all come down to Steven Gerrard's infamous slip?

Today saw the official unveiling of the new Liverpool kit for next season, as manufactured by New Balance - and it was an affair!
Liverpool made a big song and dance about the unveiling, although much of it was probably down to the brand. New Balance, better known for running shoes, have entered the football market strongly this spring. They have announced similar deals with Celtic and Porto whilst also signing up some big name players such as Adnan Januzaj, Aaron Ramsey and Vincent Kompany.
But in a drawn out affair, which saw Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush wheeled onto the stage at one point, was slightly embarrassing.
At the end of it all, New Balance unveiled the new kit for the 2015-16 season. They marked their new association with Liverpool Football Club with a ground-breaking red design.
In fairness it is a neat strip. Crisp and clean, with a subtle tribute to the 96 Hillsborough victims engraved on the shirt - they have done a fairly good, no nonsense, job of the kit.
It is of course a shame Steven Gerrard will never get to wear it. As surely, the reason Liverpool went with New Balance had nothing to do with the Boston company's buyout of previous manufacturers Warrior.
The clue was all in the name...
