Celtic defender indicates his natural position

Bhoys youngster Jack Breslin has outlined his natural position.

Speaking to the Celtic View, Breslin, 18, has revealed which position is his best.

Currently on loan at League Two side Annan Athletic, Breslin said: “I prefer playing centre-back as that’s my natural position, but full-back is good too as you’re involved in more attacks.

“I’ve told coach that it’s my preferred position but I’ve been settling for full-back as there is so much competition.”

Despite having never played for the Bhoys, Breslin featured in pre-season friendlies for Ronny Deila’s men at the beginning of this campaign, and his loan with Annan is to give him match experience before making a first-team impact at Parkhead.

Although he is just 18, Breslin could enjoy a fortunate set of circumstances this summer which see him fast tracked into Deila’s competitive plans.

Jason Denayer is set to return to Manchester City from his loan deal with the Premier League side, whilst Virgil van Dijk is linked with a transfer away from Glasgow.

Although there is no confirmation to their departures, if the duo do leave, Breslin could move into the first-team. There is no guaranteeing a starting role, but Deila has already used him non-competitively, and that certainly suggests a belief in his abilities - at least as a substitute.

Breslin may be young, but his loan at Annan could prove vital in his development, and a combination of good talent and greater luck may just see him in Celtic’s first-team next season.
