Tomas Rosicky may be nearing the end of his career but this week the Bundesliga YouTube channel reminded us of a time when he was among the world’s best
An undoubted Arsenal legend with over 240 appearances for the Gunners under his belt, Tomas Rosicky has almost become part of the furniture at the Emirates, having been with the club since way back in 2006.
However there was a time when the Czech dynamo delighted an altogether different set of football fans on the continent, during a five-and-a-half year stay in Germany.
Signed from Sparta Prague by Borussia Dortmund in January 2001 for a hefty £18 million, during the heady days of BVB’s flotation on the German stock exchange, Rosicky enjoyed notable early success with the club.
Bundesliga winners in the 2001/02 season in a campaign that also saw the team reach the final of the UEFA Cup, tougher times would come in the years that followed but Rosicky continued to impress.
He played 186 games for Dortmund in total, scoring 24 goals along the way and dictating much of the team’s attacking play in the meantime.
With a reputation for spectacular strikes, it will little surprise that Arsenal came calling eventually with BVB in danger of financial ruin at the time.
Things have since improved for Dortmund while Rosicky has gone on to carve out a fine reputation for Arsenal that will remain intact long after he has hung up his boots.
For now though, let’s bask in the glory of some of those wonderful strikes with a compilation of his top five best Bundesliga goals for BVB.
Has Rosicky lived up to his early promise?
