West Ham should look to sign one defender to increase their chances of future success.
The Hammers already have two potential England superstars in their youth ranks, in Reece Burke and Reece Oxford, and there is another young defender who could be the third player to guarantee their long-term future.
Joe Gomez currently plays for Championship side Charlton Athletic, and he has been one of the breakout stars of the season. At the age of just 17, he is already a consistent fixture in the Addicks back-line, and has been linked with a transfer to the Premier League in the summer.
Not only has Gomez played along the duo at youth level for England, but all three are considered vital parts of the Three Lions senior future.
All three are central defenders, although both Burke and Gomez can play on the right side, and there will be no problems in securing Gomez’s signing in relation to homegrown rules due to his nationality.
The East London club have longed to return to their glory years of the 1960’s, when they supplied many of England’s World Cup winning stars. In Burke and Oxford it appears as if they already have two future internationals - and a potential captain in Oxford - and if they signed Gomez the Hammers would own three future stars of the England back-line.
