Former Arsenal star Robert Pires has hailed record signing Mesut Ozil, speaking to the club's official website.
The Frenchman was impressed with Ozil's performance against Liverpool at the weekend, scoring an excellent free-kick in a 4-1 win, and believes he has answered those who have written him off.
These include former England internationals Michael Owen who told BT Sport Raheem Sterling is a better player, and Paul Scholes who was quoted by The Guardian saying the German 'goes through the motions' at Arsenal.
Pires, who still trains at the club, has taken great delight in Ozil finding form.
He said: "I am so glad that he proved his critics wrong.
“Too many people have criticised him this season and overall since he arrived at Arsenal.
"I train with him regularly and I can tell you that he is one of the best players I have seen."
Ozil has outperformed Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas since the turn of the year, another player who Pires played alongside.
For a legend like Pires to speak in such glowing terms about Ozil, a player the club paid £42 million for in 2013, is a real compliment, especially when you consider the legends like Dennis Bergkamp and Zinedine Zidane he has played alongside for club and country.
Ozil has finally reached a level of performance where it is felt he is justifying the hype, now he has to maintain it.
