Celtic continued their march towards another league title with a relatively solid 2-0 win against Partick Thistle last night.
Goals from midfielders Kris Commons and Stefan Johansen were enough to get the Bhoys over the line, with the former taking his chance to impress, while the latter continued the good form he’s shown over the course of this season.
Johansen had to play a slightly different role during the game because of Scott Brown’s suspension, sitting slightly deeper in midfield though he looked as dangerous as ever on the occasions where he could nudge forward.
The midfielder took his goal tally for the season to 12 across all competitions for the Bhoys and manager Ronny Deila will be delighted with the impact he’s having and his goalscoring form in big games for the club.
Celtic were helped by a red card in the first half to Partick’s James Craigen and Deila’s men wasted no time in taking advantage with Johansen’s strike just after the hour mark, putting the side into a 2-0 lead after Common’s penalty.
The victory means Celtic have maintained their seven point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with a game in hand which will stretch their advantage to ten points if they can pull off the victory.
For Johansen, it’s a case of just carrying on the momentum he has created for himself and challenging himself to find ways to be effective in all games across all competitions.
He’s a player that opposition sides will be going all out to keep quiet and he needs to try and stay effective, scoring goals and influencing games which should help the Bhoys on their quest for what would be a special treble.
Here are what Celtic fans on Twitter had to say about Johansen’s performance.
Johansen goal is a belter, another superb touch & move goal, similar to Forrests at St.Mirren. Judging from reports SJ had a blinder, again.— Ronnie (@RonnieJ1967) April 9, 2015
