The ex-Real Madrid star has received encouraging words from one of Arsenal's most decorated men.
The German playmaker has gradually and quietly approached some impressive form for Arsenal in recent weeks, and after suffering a ruptured knee ligament midway through the season, has played an important part in the club's strong winning sequence.
The Gunners have won seven league games in a row, with the ex-Real Madrid star scoring 3 goals and assisting 5 times since returning to Arsene Wenger's starting lineup.
And against Liverpool at the weekend, Ozil caught the eye of Arsenal favourite Pires, who stated he thought the World Cup winner had finally shown up his critics.
“For me, the man of the match was Mesut Ozil,” said the Frenchman.
Pires has taken in various spells training and helping coach at Arsenal since leaving the club, and considering the former Villarreal star has featured with the likes of Thierry Henry, and the entire Invincibles team from 2003-04, the 41-year-old's words are some compliment for the London side's record signing.
“He [Ozil] loves this club and cares a lot about it," continued Pires. He wants to win trophies here and wants to make the fans happy, like he did against Liverpool. First, there was his wonderful pass for Aaron on the first goal. Then he scored that wonderful free-kick for the second goal."
If Ozil can continue this form in the last couple of months of the season, it is very likely there will be several more goals and assists coming from his direction.
