Former Aston Villa player Stan Collymore has suggested that a midfielder was the key player for his old side against QPR last night.
Sanchez passes to the opposition more than a Villa shirt. Delph was our best player by a million miles.— Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) April 7, 2015
Villa and QPR shared a 3-3 draw, which doesn’t drastically improve the situation of either team, with striker Christian Benteke grabbing the headline space for Tim Sherwood’s side after scoring a hat-trick.
However, Collymore feels Delph was the main man making everything tick and leading by example as the club’s captain.
As the leader in the team, Delph is currently under pressure heading into every game to lead from the front and set the standard for the rest of the team to adhere to.
Delph deserves credit for the way he showed his passion and commitment to the club earlier in the season by signing a new contract when he could have pushed for a move to a side in a more comfortable Premier League position.
Next up for Aston Villa is a difficult match against Tottenham, with Delph under pressure to outperform the talented young players in the middle of Mauricio Pochettino’s side such as his England teammate Ryan Mason and Algerian star Nabil Bentaleb.
