Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT the circumstances where Jack Wilshere may consider an exit from the club.
The Daily Mail has reported that Wilshere is a target for Manchester City, as they look to freshen up their squad this summer and Parlour hasn’t completely ruled out a move from happening.
“If Arsene Wenger signs another midfielder, you have to think Jack will look at the situation and think ‘am I really going to play here?’” said Parlour.
“I think with Manchester City at the moment, he would.”
Wilshere has been in and out of the Arsenal side over the last couple of seasons as he’s battled against injuries.
As a result, Wenger has slowly developed a side and a system, which is based around not having him in the first team on a regular basis.
That creates a challenge for Wilshere every time he returns to the first team picture and he’ll have to battle hard over the rest of the season if he doesn’t have any desire to leave the Emirates.
He wouldn’t be the first man to turn his back on Arsenal for Manchester City if talks over a new deal, as covered by the Telegraph, prove to be unsuccessful.
Bacary Sagna and Samir Nasri are examples of players who both had the chance to stay at the Gunners, but both chose to move to City.
Arsenal are spoilt for choice in terms of creative and attacking midfield players, but the arrival of a holding and controlling player in the middle is still possible and it’s something which has the potential to push Wilshere further down the pecking order.
