Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli moved to clear up the reason for his absence from the club's FA Cup win over Blackburn.
The Italian international did not even make the bench for the Reds, left out due to illness.
Balotelli used his Instagram account after the game to show a high body temperate of 38 degrees, as if to prove his sickness to any doubters.
However his comment along with the image left a lot to be interpreted, with what could be perceived as a dig towards his manager omitting him from recent matches, telling fans at least this time they know the reason for his omission.
He wrote: "@phil.coutinho magic boy! Grande! Nothing stop me to watch my team winning. ( at least this time you know the real reason why I am out) . MISS THE PICTH SO MUCH ... #unluckyseason #YNWA #illbeback"
It certainly has been an unlucky season for Balotelli, who has failed to match the hype surrounding his summer transfer from AC Milan. He has made only eight league starts all season, scoring once.
He was not named on the bench at the weekend for the 4-1 loss to Arsenal, with Brendan Rodgers claiming he had ruled himself out of the match.
The manager was quoted by The Telegraph after the weekend: "He trained yesterday afternoon with the team and took a slight knock to his knee and he deemed it not able to travel with the team. It was just something that he himself felt."
Balotelli's Instagram message suggests he feels there is more to the story, but on this occasion he at least feels he can prove he had a valid reason for missing the game.
