Jagielka names four Everton players he feels are under pressure to perform

Experienced Everton defender Phil Jagielka has suggested that several first team stars are under pressure to play well over the rest of the season.

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has told the Liverpool Echo he feels there are four players currently under pressure in the Toffees’ squad.

The Everton captain has suggested that a quartet of stars have everything to play for ahead of an important summer looking ahead to next season.

“Aaron Lennon is on loan and is trying to impress and there’s a couple of lads who have not played a lot,” said Jagielka.

“Arouna (Kone) has come in, Ossie (Leon Osman) has not played a tremendous amount and Stevie P (Steven Pienaar) is back, so we have lads who have a lot to play for.”

Aaron Lennon has double motivation to impress because his immediate future is unclear.

He has to play well to account for the possibility he could be kept at Tottenham beyond this summer, and he has to play well if he has the aspiration of turning his loan deal at Everton into a permanent move.

The other three players Jagielka mentions all have a reason in common to perform over the rest of the season.

Everton have had to compensate for the absence of Arouna Kone, Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar for most of the season and they have to show that they can still make a difference in the first team for Roberto Martinez.

Martinez will be the same as any other manager at the moment and will have one eye on how to change things around with his squad this summer, and the players in question have to ensure they are in the mix for next season.
