How Villa's Twitter-based supporters reacted to the teenage winger's showing in the 3-3 home draw.
QPR opened the scoring at Villa Park through Matt Phillips’ seventh-minute header, before Benteke struck in the 10th and 33rd minutes to put the home side ahead going into the break.
Clint Hill’s powerful header and Charlie Austin’s finish 12 minutes before the end restored the visitors’ lead but Benteke’s sublime free-kick five minutes later salvaged a crucial point for the claret and blues.
Sherwood’s line-up contained five changes from the weekends’ 3-1 defeat at Manchester United, with the Villa boss making a huge call in handing teenage winger Jack Grealish his first top-flight start.
While the Birmingham-native had impressed in his previous 10 substitute appearances this season, there was still some trepidation over how he would handle the big occasion but those fears were soon dispelled.
The first-half would see him form an integral part of the Villa’s attack with his pace and skill and, while he was somewhat quieter after the interval before going off with 20 minutes left, it remained an encouraging outing for the club’s star prospect.
Given Sherwood’s noted trust in homegrown talent, it will be interesting to see whether the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international keeps his place for the coming trip to Tottenham Hotspur but, judging from the Twitter reaction to his latest showing, most fans would be behind a second consecutive start.
Hadn't previously signed up to the #Grealish love-in. But saw an exciting young talent tonight, playing with pride, passion & for his club!— David Nash (@BrimfulofNasha) April 7, 2015
Among the #avfc positives was a terrific first half from Grealish - Sherwood suggested he'll get more chances to start from now on.— Richard Wilford (@wilfordwm) April 7, 2015
On a positive note it was a lovely performance from Grealish, nice to see a young player stepping up and taking it to them #avfc— Ben Randall (@Benjmeister85) April 7, 2015
Btw, Jack Grealish rocks. Not that anyone didn't already know this (except maybe Paul Lambert?) #AVFC— Sam Tighe (@stighefootball) April 7, 2015
Jack Grealish... I see it now. I really do. Well played kid. #avfc— James Eggison (@Ola_Egg) April 7, 2015
Jack Grealish has vindicated his manager's decision to start him tonight. Really impressive and confident showing against QPR so far. #AVFC— Crippy Cooke (@Crippy4Villa) April 7, 2015
Grealish had a decent first half. Timmy Time got that right. Know when to hold em, know when to fold em. God loves a Gambler #avfc— Matt Yates (@matt_yatesAVFC) April 7, 2015
Loving grealish in the lineup. So useful everytime he touches it #avfc— Jamie Ashworth (@JmeAshworth) April 7, 2015
Grealish looks a player. A bit of upper body strength. Watching the game with my dad, Grealish reminds him a bit of Brian Little #avfc— Ben Nall (@BenNall79) April 7, 2015
Apart from his corner taking skills, Grealish had an excellent first half. #AVFC— Adam Clarke (@AdamClarke501) April 7, 2015
