Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has been quoted by the Liverpool Echo talking up the efforts of his teammates on the training pitch.
“We obviously would want a clean sheet every week and we haven’t had enough,” said Howard.
“But that doesn’t stop us going out there and training hard and that is what a lot of people miss, can’t see and will never see, our work ethic on the training pitch.”
The Everton defence has been heavily criticised at times this season, but the shot stopper has suggested that the side are working harder than ever before to improve that area of the current team.
Only one team (Tottenham) ahead of Everton in the table has a worse record in terms of goals conceded and it is part of the side which needs to improve looking ahead to next season.
Everton should be competing in the top half of the table and a side that should be far higher than 12th in the table.
It’s looking very unlikely that the side will retain their European status for next season, but that could work in the team’s favour because it will give manager Roberto Martinez extra time to work on areas of the squad on the training pitch.
As a result, Everton’s general performances and consistency should improve, but it’s important they end the season in the right way.
