Steve McClaren wants wins from Derby's remaining games

Derby County boss Steve McClaren wants his side to be perfect over their remaining games this season.

Derby County manager Steve McClaren has commented in the Derby Telegraph on a target he’s set for the side over the rest of the season.

The Rams secured a much needed victory against Wigan yesterday, which ended a long run without a win and gives the side momentum for the final stretch of the Championship season.

“We have got to win the next five games - We don't look ahead, only to the next game,” said the boss.

“It was a massive win for us and we showed huge character.”

The win helped Derby to consolidate their position in the top six but in terms of automatically going up to the Premier League, the damage has probably already been done.

Derby have to overturn a five point gap in as many games over the rest of the season and the only way they can do that is to win all of their matches and rely on other sides making a mistake.

Derby have key players back from injury and while George Thorne suffered a setback, there is enough talent in all areas of the side to ensure that McClaren’s target over the final weeks is achieved.

Derby now face back-to-back home games against Brentford and Blackpool before trips to Huddersfield and Millwall with the season ending at home against Reading.

Hopefully by the time that match against Reading comes around, the Rams will be in a position where they can take full advantage and put the pressure on the sides around them in the table.
