Nottingham Forest youngster Tyler Walker deserves praise for coming off of the bench and making a difference for his side in their game against Brentford yesterday.
The result wouldn’t have pleased manager Dougie Freedman, a 2-2 draw, but he would have been pleased by the impact Walker had and the fact that his young forward didn’t appear to be overawed by the occasion.
There would have been some surprise when Freedman signed Chuba Akpom on loan from Arsenal, especially considering the talent Walker has and the potential he possesses to put opposition defences onto the back foot and intimidate them.
The Akpom move was a good piece of business because he’s one of the most talented youngsters that Arsenal possess and what Walker has now shown, is that Akpom and all other forwards at the club now have competition for their place over the rest of the season.
It’s another point to add to the collection for Forest under Freedman and the boss will be pleased that his side showed the spirit and commitment to fight back after suffering defeats in their last two games against Norwich before the international break and Wolves last week.
The focus now moves forward to this weekend and a home match against Huddersfield, which should provide the side with a good chance to back up their latest victory and strengthen their position in the top half of the table.
Huddersfield are comfortable above the bottom three in the Championship, with little to play for and that gives Forest a chance to get onto the front foot and pressure their opponents, with all of Forest’s younger and more experienced players facing another opportunity to make a good impression on the manager.
Here’s what Forest fans on Twitter had to say about his performance yesterday.
