Jermaine Jenas: What really worries me about Spurs

Jermaine Jenas

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was taken aback by a key aspect of the nature of the north London side's performance at Burnley.

Jermaine Jenas is worried about a key aspect of Tottenham's recent display at Burnley that could be down to much wider problems than just an off day, according to Match of the Day 2.

Indeed, the BBC pundit, who used to turn out for Spurs' midfield, feels the north London side made far too many errors under no pressure whatsoever.

It wasn't Burnley's pressing or high energy levels that led to Tottenham losing the ball so often, Jenas argued, it was simply silly, avoidable mistakes.

Could such errors be down to a problem during - or lack of - training? And is the technical level at Spurs now simply just not good enough?

“There were so many errors. It was the amount of errors under no pressure as well,” he said during Match of the Day 2.

“There was no need for these type of errors, when no one was pressing - no one was even trying to press.

“They got themselves into a situation they couldn’t get themselves out of. Spurs were doing things that weren’t even close to coming off. They were just really poor all game.”

As Opta stats show, Tottenham's clash with Burnley was indeed mistake ridden and wasn't the north London side's first such display this season.

Although Spurs produced their joint-highest number of errors leading to a shot, the side as a whole have collectively been dispossessed more often in other games - such as the heavy defeats to Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as the forgettable losses to Stoke City and Crystal Palace.
