Derby County forward Chris Martin has praised the club's fans after the win against Wigan yesterday.

Derby County striker Chris Martin explained to the Derby Telegraph why he feels the win against Wigan was a reward for the club’s fans.

Martin hit the back of the net during the 2-0 victory yesterday, which helped the Rams consolidate their position in the Championship play-offs.

He’s commented on the travelling support for the game and has suggested the performance was a reward for fans, who have been forced to endure a difficult run of fixtures over the last month.

“To have that whole stand filled out was magnificent - That's a great feeling for us and, hopefully, a great feeling for the fans, too,” said Martin.

“It's nice to give them something positive after a tough month or so.”

The victory was a first for the club since the end of February and the club’s fans deserve massive praise for sticking by the team during a very difficult period.

It could have been easy for them to turn their backs on the side and the manager after the Rams slipped away from the top of the table, but they have kept going and have kept fighting.

The tight and tense nature of the Championship this season means the drama isn’t over and it will be interesting to see if there are any twists and turns over the rest of the campaign.

Hopefully, Steve McClaren can keep everyone motivated and in a positive mood to ensure that Derby are the side set to take advantage rather than being the side to suffer as a consequence.
