Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood explains message he'll stress to players ahead of huge game

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood will urge his players not to shy away from the challenge they face this evening.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has been quoted by the club’s website explaining the message he will give to his players ahead of the game against QPR this evening.

Villa head into the relegation six-pointer off the back of a defeat at the hands of Manchester United and rather than be overawed by the nerves, Sherwood wants his players to embrace the occasion and the challenge this evening.

“The nerves and anxiety have got to be there for the lads. The boys know the severity of the situation,” said Sherwood.

“Tuesday night, Villa Park, under the lights, against QPR, to move six points clear of them - enjoy it, relish it. That's what they need to do.”

Villa are tensely placed just above the bottom three with Sunderland’s win against Newcastle over the Easter weekend propelling the Black Cats up the table.

A win this evening moves Villa onto 31 points and pushes them up two places, with the pressure going back onto the Black Cats and Hull City who will fall beneath them.

It will be a tense night and an evening where Villa are going to need all of the supporters to get behind them.

If there are some nerves lingering around the side, it’s important for the fans to increase the volume and to show the players they are supported regardless of the outcome.

Hopefully the only side intimidated by the occasion this evening is going to be QPR and fingers crossed Villa can register a win and improve their situation.
