According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic were interested in signing the £1 million-rated Scott Bain from Dundee in the summer transfer window, but that chance has gone.
That’s because Bain signed a new contract with Dundee earlier today which will keep him at Dens Park until 2018.
The Sun claimed that Bain was supposed to provide cover for Craig Gordon and also compete with him for a regular place in the Celtic first team.
It meant that Lukasz Zaluska was going to leave Celtic at the end of the season when his current contract ran out.
However, could the unavailability of Bain make the Bhoys offer a new deal to Zaluska?
Zaluska has been on the books of Celtic since 2009 and has been able to make only 28 appearances in the Scottish top flight.
It is clear that the 32-year-old Pole is not someone who can challenge Gordon, but perhaps the Bhoys would be wise to hold onto him.
Celtic know Zaluska and what he can - and cannot - do. Signing a new goalkeeper would be taking a gamble.
True, at 32, Zaluska could be seen as someone who could be moved on, but how many truly brilliant goalkeepers would Celtic get in the summer?
Assuming Zaluska wants to remain at Celtic, perhaps the Scottish Premiership champions should give him a one-year contract and retain his services for next season.
