The Southampton legend is however still revelling in a great season.
Southampton have had a miraculous season under new boss Ronald Koeman.
Before the season many tipped them to go down. They lost big names such as Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw - not to mention their manager Mauricio Pochettino.
With that in mind not many gave them a hope of finishing high up the table.
But they have exceeded even their own lofty expectations. For much of the campaign they looked to be on course for a Champions League place.
Unfortunately that has not been the final case. Despite looking for much of the season as if they will be finishing above the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool - they are not likely to do so.
After defeat to Everton yesterday The Saints are now seventh in the league table, and eight points behind Manchester City in fourth.
Matt Le Tissier has now Tweeted on the matter. The Southampton legend admitted he was perhaps a little over ambitious when he predicted that The Saints would finish above Manchester United this season. Although he was also smug that the thought had ever crossed his mind.
Looks like I was a tad optimistic thinking saints would finish above Man Utd this season
