Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has been singing the praises of his teammate Ander Herrera in his blog.
The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder has been in brilliant form in recent weeks and was arguably the best player for United against Aston Villa at the weekend.
Mata, who also featured in that game, has now lavished praised on his Spanish compatriot.
“I think this is the first time he (Herrera) scores twice in a game and I’m very happy for him!” the Spain international midfielder wrote in his blog.
“The truth is he deserves it. He is a genius on and off the pitch and I know how happy he was after the game.”
Herrera’s performances for United have also impressed former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp.
“He had a difficult start and had to win over the trust of Louis van Gaal, but now he looks like he’s enjoying himself,” Redknapp wrote in The Daily Mail. “Herrera is a good technician but he likes a tackle. I like that about him…
“I met him in a London restaurant and he was a bright kid who clearly loves life in England. He’s had to be patient, but now he’s starting to show his class.
Herrera joined United from Bilbao in the summer of 2014 and has been a key player for the Manchester outfit so far this season.
Although the 25-year-old has not been hugely consistently this campaign, his dynamic role in midfield has been crucial in Louis van Gaal’s side challenging for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Herrera has scored five goals and created 17 chances in 19 Premier League appearances so far this term, while having a pass accuracy of 89%.
The former Real Zaragoza star has won 17 of the 21 dribbles he has attempted and 28 of the 74 tackles he has made.
