Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has been singing the praises of Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil in The Daily Mail.
Germany international Ozil has been in brilliant form in recent weeks following his return from a long-term injury.
The former Real Madrid star has often been criticised for his performances since moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2013, but Redknapp seems to be a fan of the 26-year-old.
“There’s no doubt that Mesut Ozil is an easy target for ex-pros and pundits,” the 41-year-old wrote in The Daily Mail. “But when he’s at his best he is worth paying to watch.
“I’d much rather see a quality player do something special than a bunch of grafters with nothing to show for it.
"Against Liverpool, Ozil was at his brilliant best in a massive game. You don’t become a Real Madrid hero or win the World Cup without being something special. Ozil is just that.”
It is a big comment from Redknapp - that he will pay to watch Ozil - but it is a remark that many football followers will agree with.
During his three years at Madrid, Ozil was one of the best players in the team and was one of the most creative players in Europe.
True, the 2014 World Cup winner has not been at his best in almost a year, but his class and calibre remain undisputed.
In 15 Premier League appearances so far this season, Ozil has scored four goals and created 39 chances, while having a pass accuracy of 87% and a shot accuracy of 56%.
