The Gunners recorded their seventh straight league win and their 12th in 14 matches as they dispatched fellow top four rivals Liverpool 4-1 at the Emirates yesterday.
Their victory over the Reds further enhances the popular belief that Wenger’s side have finally discovered the necessary mind-set to overcome their rivals in the big-game encounters.
Having also recorded away victories over Manchester City and Manchester United since the turn of the year, this Arsenal side now undoubtedly has all the ingredients to mount a serious title challenge.
However, BBC pundit Savage feels as far as this season goes it’s too late as he backs the Blues to hold the Gunners and beat Liverpool when the Reds visit Stamford Bridge in May.
"I think Chelsea will beat Liverpool and Mourinho has never lost against Wenger [the Blues play both Liverpool and Arsenal in their un-in]. Chelsea have a five-point lead with a game in hand. I think it is a near unassailable lead,” he explained.
Following Jose Mourinho’s side’s victory over Stoke City in the day’s late kick-off, their lead at the top has stretched to seven points with a game in hand.
With the finishing line in sight, 16 more points would guarantee that the title heads to West London and, given their consistent form, only a very brave man would bet against them.
