Taking a closer look at some of Arsenal's star performers against Liverpool.
Arsenal put in a wonderful performance to defeat Liverpool 4-1 on Saturday.
It was a game that saw great goals and an emphatic statement of intent for the remainder of the campaign, with the Gunners clearly not giving up the race for the title even if Chelsea appear out of reach.
They may well be, but Arsene Wenger’s side can take great pride in their recent form and certain players really stood out against the Reds.
Here we take a look at three Arsenal players who proved a point against Liverpool:
When Arsenal bought Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers last summer, fellow right-back Hector Bellerin could have been forgiven for wondering if his time at the Emirates Stadium could be coming to an ened despite his considerable talent.
But the Spanish full-back has been wonderful this season and against Liverpool he stepped up a gear, scoring the vital first goal and showing composure throughout.
Many Arsenal fans would have wondered why Gabriel Paulista did not start this match but Per Mertesacker was one of the Gunners’ most impressive performers.
The German international put in a strong performance and ensured Liverpool’s attacking players barely had a sniff of goal.
Mertesacker’s countryman Mesut Ozil has come back with a bang following a serious injury layoff but this performance showed that he is now back to his best.
Effective throughout, Ozil scored once and continually threatened, proving that when fit Arsenal have a genuine superstar in their midst.
