Report: Tottenham lead race for Andre Ayew; talks held

Tottenham Hotspur allegedly lead the race to sign Andre Ayew on a free transfer.

According to a report from ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Marseille’s Andre Ayew on a free transfer this summer.

The report cites sources that say the 25-year-old Ghana international is currently looking most likely to move to White Hart Lane, despite alleged interest from Everton and Newcastle United.

Tottenham may have a free-scoring Harry Kane but there is no doubt they need to add more goal-scorers to their squad prior to the new campaign.

Ayew has 57 goals in 200 appearances for Marseille, along with 24 assists to date, and the report claims officials from Tottenham have already held talks with a player who is now free to discuss a pre-contract agreement.

With his current deal expiring in the summer, there could be a lot of clubs interested in his services, but even if he were to arrive at Tottenham they may still seek to sign an out-and-out forward to partner or stand in for Kane.

Ayew is predominantly a left winger who can also operate as an attacking midfielder if required and for nothing more than a signing-on fee, he could be a bargain.
