Leeds United suffered a 3-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday.

Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn has revealed to West Yorkshire Sport what he told the players before the game against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The Whites featured in their first Championship match since the suspension of assistant head coach Steve Thompson.

Thompson was suspended by Leeds without any explanation on Thursday, as announced on the club’s official website.

It must have been difficult and confusing for the players with the situation, but Redfearn tried his best to keep his team focused on the game.

“I said to the players before the game that we have got to be professional,” the Englishman told West Yorkshire Sport.

“People have paid good money. They have worked hard all week to come and watch us on Saturday.

“We have got to put a performance on, play well and win. They have got to see effort and determination.”

Leeds failed to win against Blackburn, going down 3-0 at Elland Road after playing most of the game with 10 men following the sending-off of Rudolph Austin in the first half.

The defeat means that the West Yorkshire outfit are now 14th in the Championship table with 52 points from 40 matches.

The former Premier League outfit will return to action on Monday, when they take on promotion-chasing Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home.
