Michael Owen explains his Arsenal v Liverpool Man-of-the-Match decision

Michael Owen picked Alexis Sanchez as the best player in Saturday’s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Michael Owen has explained his decision to name Alexis Sanchez the ‘Man of the Match’ in the game between Arsenal and Liverpool to BT Sport.

The former Manchester United and Liverpool striker was co-commentating on Saturday's Premier League clash for BT Sport which ended in a 4-1 win for the Gunners.

“I don’t really think that there are too many outstanding candidates,” Owen told BT Sport towards the end of the contest.

“I am going to go with Alexis Sanchez. He scored a cracking goal and his work rate has been outstanding.”

Arsenal’s hammering of Liverpool was a result of team work, and there were really no exceptional individual displays.

The likes of Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin were all important in the victory and played key roles.

Sanchez was his usual self, working hard and always looking to run with the ball at the Liverpool defence.

The Chile international scored the Gunners’ third goal of the Premier League encounter on the stroke of half time to take his tally to 14 goals in 28 league appearances for the season.

The former Barcelona ace had three shots, a pass accuracy of 83%, created three chances, put in three crosses, attempted five dribbles, and made four interceptions and one block against Liverpool.
