There are some football matches that live long in the memory. But Burnley’s encounter with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend will not be one of them.
The two sides played out a bore draw at Turf Moor when a point apiece did little side much good in their pursuits of Premier League safety and European qualification respectively.
In what was Harry Kane’s first ever match as Tottenham captain, the England international could not add to his impressive goal-tally this season, drawing a blank against a well-drilled Burnley side.
In fact, it was Danny Ings who had the best chance to win the match for the hosts, only to shoot straight at Tottenham’s reserve goalkeeper Michel Vorm, who was standing in for the injured Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham enjoyed the vast majority of possession but they had just two shots on target in the entire match, half as many as Burnley.
This match will be forgotten long before the next one kicks off for these two sides, who still have plenty of work to do in the weeks ahead.
