Report: Manchester United line up audacious move for Liverpool star

Raheem Sterling

Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling has been linked with Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and now Manchester United.

Manchester United are lining up one of the ‘most audacious moves in transfer history’ as they eye a deal for Liverpool’s contract rebel Raheem Sterling, The Sun report.

Sterling’s uncertain future at Anfield has come to the fore in recent weeks as the England international’s contract talks with the Reds have stalled until the summer, as reported by the BBC.

A number of clubs have been attributed with holding an interest in the talented winger, no more so than Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in a recent report published by the Daily Mail.

£50 million is the figure which has been mooted, and reports in The Sun claim that is an asking price well within the Red Devils’ price range as they prepare to make an astonishing summer bid.

“Manchester United are ready to make one of the most audacious moves in transfer history by joining the incredible auction for Raheem Sterling. United have made their interest known and it is serious,” reports claim.

Do Manchester United need Raheem Sterling?

Like Chelsea and Arsenal, the Red Devils have an array of attacking talent that includes the likes of Wayne Rooney, Angel Di Maria, Juan Mata and Robin van Persie.

Sterling is best placed out wide, a role which United don’t use as much as Louis van Gaal instead favours three central midfielders and plenty of intricate passing through the middle.

For such a price, unless it was a Cristiano Ronaldo or perhaps Welsh wizard Gareth Bale, there would be huge question marks owing to the current talent at Old Trafford

United need defenders, and perhaps a striker to replace loan star Radamel Falcao, not another winger, despite Sterling offering huge potential due to his age and current ability.

Of those currently linked with the 20-year-old, Manchester City look like the best fit, whereas Jose Mourinho could probably also assure him of a regular spot with the Blues.
