Stats: Former Leeds man Matthew Kilgallon outshone by current defenders

The Blackburn Rovers defender has had a good season - but Sol Bamba and Giuseppe Bellusci beat him in key areas.

Away from all the off-field madness at Elland Road, there is a Leeds side that has given their all on the pitch this season.

That they deserve better is clear. And, ahead of today's Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers, the stats show just how well two Leeds United stars in particular have been doing.

Indeed, Sol Bamba and Giuseppe Bellusci have been immense for the Yorkshire side this term. With their help, United have only conceded just 47 league goals this term - despite only really hitting form in 2015.

An intriguing point of reference is Blackburn's Matthew Kilgallon, another experienced defender who has performed this term and, of course, a former Leeds player.

As Opta stats show, the Leeds duo win more tackles per game than the 31-year-old and more clearances.

Bamba is also superior in terms of both interceptions and headers. Kilgallon beats Bellusci in these two areas, showing he's not exactly had a bad season himself. Blackburn have only conceded 50 goals this term, just three more than Leeds.

So, while the off-field problems continue to persist at Elland Road, Neil Redfearn and co know they have two ultra-reliable centre-backs who can pick up the slack during game time. If only such leadership was shown club wide...
