Former Derby County and Leicester City midfielder Robbie Savage has explained on BBC Sport why Alexis Sanchez’s form has dipped for Arsenal in recent weeks.
Sanchez has been the best player for the Gunners so far this season and has proved to be a brilliant summer signing.
The 26-year-old forward has scored 13 goals and created 64 chances in 27 Premier League appearances, while having a pass accuracy of 76% and a shot accuracy of 65%.
The former Barcelona star has won 41 of the 108 tackles he has made and 94 of the 162 dribbles he has attempted.
However, Sanchez has slowed down a bit in the last two months, and Savage believes that it is because he is tired.
However, the former Wales international has kept the Chilean star on his shortlist for the Player of the Year award.
“The Chilean has faded since the turn of the year and is the player on this list I am least sure about,” Savage wrote on BBC Sport.
“But he has still had an impressive first season in the Premier League and the reason he has lost his sparkle recently is because he looks tired, rather than because he has been found out.”
Since January 1, Sanchez has scored just three goals and provided one assist in the Premier League, while prior to that he had scored 10 goals and provided six assists.
While tiredness should not be an issue for top-level footballers, perhaps in the case with Sanchez, the fact that he is always running and willing to play every game has slowed him down a bit.
Sanchez is a mobile forward who more often than not is happy to drop deep, and perhaps this is causing him to lose some sharpness.
