Arsenal have reportedly joined Tottenham in the race to sign Koln defender Kevin Wimmer.

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are looking to hijack Tottenham's bid to sign Koln centre back Kevin Wimmer this summer.

Recent reports from Koln-based newspaper Expressen have reported that Wimmer was in talks with Tottenham, before the Austrian international admitted to Laola that negotiations were progressing well with Spurs.

Yet he also added that the deal was stalling because the two clubs couldn't agree on a transfer fee, with Mauricio Pochettino seemingly keen to add another centre back this summer.

The Argentine may have the likes of Eric Dier, Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen at his disposal, but with Younes Kaboul likely to leave White Hart Lane this summer, Pochettino will need one more centre back.

However, their bid for 22-year-old Wimmer could be in danger after the Daily Star reported that North London rivals Arsenal are looking to hijack the move.

The Gunners signed a central defender in January, with Gabriel Paulista arriving from Villarreal, but with lingering doubts of Per Mertesacker's long-term future at the Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger is also likely to be in the market for another centre back this summer.

The two sides are fierce rivals, and whilst they're usually locking horns on the pitch, now they could do battle off it over the signing of the highly rated Wimmer.
