England international Kane is currently the joint-top scorer in the English top flight with Chelsea striker Diego Costa on 19 goals so far this season.
However, former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Owen has suggested that the Spain international star’s injury against Stoke City away from home on Saturday makes Kane the clear frontrunner.
Costa's injury looks nasty. He won't be playing many more games this season. Harry Kane won't be feeling too sorry for him! #GoldenBoot— michael owen (@themichaelowen) April 4, 2015
Costa, who has been struggling with fitness issues of late, picked up a hamstring injury during the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.
The former Atletico Madrid star replaced Oscar at half time, but he could last only 10 minutes before being substituted.
Chelsea’s 2014 summer signing, Costa, is now unlikely to play too many games for Chelsea, and this certainly gives Kane an advantage in the race for the Golden Boot.
However, Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and Queens Park Rangers star Charlie Austin are also in the running for the prestigious award.
While Aguero has scored 17 Premier League goals so far this season, Austin has found the target 16 times.
