Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has told BT Sport that Raheem Sterling is a better player than Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck.
The 35-year-old made the comments during this morning’s Matchday Live with Fletch and Sav show.
“Well, I would think so,” Owen said when asked if Sterling would get into the Arsenal team. “They would find some way. He is better than Ozil, and he is probably better than Welbeck.”
Sterling has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window, with The Mirror claiming the Gunners’ interest in the England international winger last month.
Whether the Gunners do make a move for the youngster at the end of the season remains to be seen, but it is a big statement from Owen to claim that he is better than Ozil.
Arsenal playmaker Ozil is one of the most creative players in the world and is a World Cup winner with Germany.
Although the 26-year-old has not been at his best since leaving Real Madrid for the North London outfit in the summer of 2013, his talent and quality remains undisputed.
One could argue in favour of Owen’s stance that Sterling is better than Welbeck, who has not taken the Premier League by storm by any stretch of the imagination.
Based purely on talent, Sterling is certainly better than Welbeck, although the former Manchester United striker has his own importance in the current Arsenal team.
