The one-time centre-back knows a thing or two about great Arsenal sides, and he was very happy with what he saw when Arsene Wenger’s latest team took to the field against a Liverpool side smarting from their defeat to Manchester United prior to the international break.
“If Arsenal can get the right balance, surely they are title contenders," Keown said.
“This is as good as it gets from Arsenal. There have been opportunities for Liverpool but Arsenal have hit the ground running after the international break.”
Keown was speaking after Arsenal had raced into a surprise 3-0 lead courtesy of goals from Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, and while Jordan Henderson pulled one back for the visitors, Olivier Giroud restored the three-goal advantage in injury-time.
It was an emphatic statement from Arsenal – who moved ahead of reigning champions Manchester City as a result.
And while Chelsea remain well clear at the top of the table they will not want to give Arsenal any sniff of a chance to snatch the title away at the death.
