A former Liverpool defender had kind words and advice for their current goalkeeper during their 4-1 defeat to Arsenal.
Prior to Arsenal’s match against Liverpool this weekend few would have expected things to play out as they did.
The Gunners started the game in blistering style and by the full-time whistle Liverpool had lost 4-1 and seen Emre Can sent off for two yellow cards.
Goals from Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez put Arsenal firmly in control and while Jordan Henderson pulled one back for the visitors, in-form Olivier Giroud made it 4-1 in the closing stages.
While Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet ended the day with four goals against his name, one former Red earlier praised the Belgian for his performance between the sticks to keep Arsenal at bay during a frenetic opening period.
Mignolet had made two saves before the five-minute mark and it was not until nine minutes shy of the interval that he was finally beaten.
It had been a resilient effort, but ultimately it could not prevent a humiliating loss that may have ended Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Mignolet been brilliant today but can't get beat like that on your side from a free kick.— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) April 4, 2015
