Former Tottenham forward Ilie Dumitrescu comments on Kane and Adebayor

A one-time Tottenham Hotspur striker has had his say on the current squad.

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Ilie Dumitrescu has been speaking exclusively to Inside Futbol about Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Tottenham may have faltered in recent times but there is still much to be admired about their campaign and their young striker Harry Kane has blossomed into one of the most prolific front-men in the game…at least for now.

Dumitrescu had one season at White Hart Lane directly after USA 1994, but he did not reach the heady heights of Kane.

That said he had some interesting comments to make regarding Tottenham’s current team.

“There is a difference when you compare this season’s Tottenham with previous teams, who had players playing at the highest level like Gareth Bale and Emmanuel Adebayor,” Dumitrescu said. “

“They also have good players now like Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli and Harry Kane, but they are not like the others of previous seasons.”

Tottenham’s young squad means it was always going to take them time to develop and to find consistency – something Eriksen for one has struggled with in recent months. But few Tottenham fans would think Adebayor at his peak was better than Kane is proving to be this season.

Things are very bright at Tottenham and that should be embraced as they look to see out what has been a great season regardless of the final few games.

The main problem with Kane’s emergence is that people are already talking him up as the next saviour of English football after just a single season firing in all cylinders.

Only time will tell if Kane can be consistent for Tottenham, and if he can embrace the pressure rather than suffocate in it, but he has certainly made a great start.
