Chelsea are reportedly interested in Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling, who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Chelsea are interested in signing Raheem Sterling from Liverpool in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.

Sterling’s future has come under speculation in recent weeks, with talks over a new contract stalled until the end of the season, as reported by BBC Sport last month.

Earlier this week, The Mirror claimed that Arsenal could make a move for the 20-year-old England international in the summer, and now it has been reported that Chelsea are also interested.

According to The Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho’s side are “are poised to join the heavyweight battle for English football’s hottest property” Sterling, who is rated at £50 million by Liverpool, as reported by The Telegraph.

It has also been reported that the current Premier League leaders have made “discreet overtures” about the youngster, and that they want to be “kept informed about the forward’s future”.

Do Chelsea need Raheem Sterling?

Chelsea have one of the best squads in the Premier League, and at the moment there is really no place for Sterling in the starting line-up.

Predominantly a winger, the Liverpool man has been played as centre-forward on occasions this season, but even this newfound versatility of his would not guarantee him a place in the Blues’ team week-in and week-out.

However, signing Sterling would mean that - theoretically at least - Chelsea would become stronger and Liverpool would become weaker.

Moreover, Sterling is just 20 years of age, which means that the London outfit would get a player who is only going to improve and give more to the club.

From that perspective it makes sense for Chelsea to join the race for the youngster’s signature, but Mourinho will have the tough task of playing the Englishman regularly in his favoured position.
