Sterling is yet to sign a new deal with Liverpool, and with the ongoing delays it is looking more and more likely that the youngster will be leaving Anfield.
He has been requesting more money than he is being offered, and that has done much to sour relations between the player, the club and its fans.
Sterling is a key player, and it is a surprise that the club do not value him as highly as he does. The English international is arguably the best player in their squad, and without him Brendan Rodgers would be fielding a much weaker starting XI.
But, as far as stats go, there is one other player in the Premier League who is better than Sterling - and he wants a new contract.
Stoke City’s Jonathan Walters has scored seven goals to Sterling’s six this season, and the Irish forward has taken to Twitter to suggest that he will be heading to Mark Hughes’ office in the coming days to demand a new contract to match Sterling’s.
Walters might only be joking, but it is good to see that someone can find humour in Sterling’s current situation, whilst the winger’s own fans are turning against him.
