The Newcastle United players have been training ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
John Carver’s side will be looking to return to winning ways when they take on the Black Cats in the Tyne–Wear derby.
The training session on Friday was quite intense, as Newcastle are determined to get their season back on track.
One of the players who was training with the rest of the Newcastle squad but is unlikely to feature against Sunderland was Siem de Jong.
The 26-year-old has been injured for most of the season, having joined the Magpies from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer of 2014.
First a thigh injury in training and then a collapsed lung have kept the Netherlands international out of competitive football since September.
De Jong is back in training, though, but he will sit out Sunday’s match against Sunderland, who are currently 17th in the Premier League table with 26 points from 30 matches, just a point above the relegation zone.
