Mark Lawrenson predicts Arsenal v Liverpool

Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Saturday’s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

Mark Lawrenson has predicted in his BBC Sport column that Arsenal will win Saturday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

The former Liverpool defender believes that the Gunners will register a 2-1 victory in the game and consolidate their position in the top four.

“It does not help that the Reds are without Martin Skrtel, who is suspended,” Lawrenson wrote on BBC Sport.

“It is a big blow because he has been their lynchpin at the back and has been outstanding since they switched to their 3-4-3 formation in December.

“Without him, I do not see Brendan Rodgers getting anything at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal have won nine of their last 10 league games and are on a roll.”

Could Mark Lawrenson’s prediction come true?

Martin Skrtel has been arguably Liverpool’s best defender this season and one of the main reasons why the Reds still are in the race for the top four.

It will be a challenge for Reds manager Brendan Rodgers to play against Arsenal without the centre-back.

Given the attacking prowess of Arsenal, one would expect them to score, especially as the match is at the Emirates.

However, Rodgers had two weeks to plan his tactics and strategy for this match, and one suspects that he has something in mind to compensate the absence of Skrtel.

Whether that plan works or not remains to be seen.
