Ex-Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand on Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane

Defence - Spurs v Chelsea

Former Manchester United and current Queens Park Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand speaks highly of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Rio Ferdinand has been singing the praises of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in The Sun.

Kane was called up to the England squad for recent international matches against Lithuania and Italy.

The 21-year-old made a dream debut against Lithuania in the Euro 2016 qualifier at London’s Wembley Stadium last week, scoring just 79 seconds after coming on as a substitute for Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.

The Tottenham youngster played the entire 90 minutes of this week’s friendly international against Italy in Turin, although he failed to score.

Kane’s performance against Italy was not exactly great, but former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was still pleased with him.

“I thought Kane did well in both the England games,” the Queens Park Rangers centre-back wrote in The Sun. “He got his goal as soon as he came on against Lithuania, at one end of the international scale, and then showed he can deal with a much tougher proposition in Italy, who are at the top end of the scale.

“Giorgio Chiellini is a very good international defender, so it was great experience for Kane. If you can hold your own against an Italian defence, you can do it against anyone — and Harry certainly looked like he could cope. Chiellini doesn’t take prisoners but Kane wasn’t fazed by him.”

Kane’s displays in his two appearances for England were quite encouraging, and he will now be expected to take his game to a higher level while representing his country.

The Tottenham star has been in superb form this season and has been probably the best young player in the Premier League in 2014-15.

The Englishman has scored 19 goals and created 20 chances in 26 league appearances, while having a pass accuracy of 76% and a shot accuracy of 61%.
