Tottenham attacker Nacer Chadli has assured fans that the players are focused on sealing three points against Burnley this weekend, telling TottenhamHotspur.com that the squad have not given up hope of claiming a higher position in the league than the seventh place Spurs currently occupy.
“We’ve got eight games to go and they’re eight finals for us,” the Belgium international told the Spurs website.
“Burnley will desperately want to win but we too are going to fight for every ball because we need to get the three points to get into the top positions in the table.
“We need those three points as much as them."
Chadli has had an impressive second season in North London, doubling his goal campaign from the whole of debut campaign with 10 goals in 37 games.
The former Twente man will be bolstered by the fact Spurs are undefeated so far in three games against the Clarets this season, with a 2-1 league win in December preceding an FA Cup tie against Sean Dyche's side in January, that had to go to a replay after a 1-1 draw up at Turf Moor in which Chadli opened the scoring. Tottenham won that follow-up tie 4-2 at White Hart Lane, and Chadli says that after the 4-3 victory over Leicester in the final game before the international break, the players are confident as the two sides prepare to face each other for a fourth time.
"We know them very well, we know they have quality but we will try to exploit them to the maximum in all the areas we can,” Chadli said.
“It’s always good to win the previous game but the next one is always the most important and we are very focused for Sunday.
“Everybody is happy to be back and we are in good spirits."
