The Danish international is considering his future with Ajax.
Ajax defender Nicolai Boilesen has admitted to Danish paper Ekstra Bladet that he could consider doing a Christian Eriksen and leaving the club this summer.
The Dane is an international team-mate of the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and is being linked with a move away from the club in the summer.
He told EB that he is considering his future, as he is out of contract in 2016:
"I must consider the future regardless of what soon. Ajax has the philosophy that when you have a year left on his contract, so must be decided whether to extend or separated. Then something comes in each to happen this summer.
"I've been at the club for five years, and sometimes I think then, if one were to try some other challenges. It can also be inspiring to be looked at with different eyes and try a different league and get a new life."
Ajax tend to sell players before there is the chance of losing them on a free, so Boilesen certainly looks like he could be on his way out of the club in the summer.
Which should interest Southampton.
The Saints were linked with a move for the Danish defender in 2012 by The Mirror, but no move ever came to fruition.
Now The Saints are managed by Ronald Koeman, who never managed the Dane during his time in charge of Ajax. However he will know all about the player from his time in the Dutch league and will know of his talents.
Yesterday saw Atletico Madrid confirm they will be taking Toby Alderweireld back in the summer, leaving Southampton short a defender. Boilesen could be an excellent replacement for his former team-mate, who would not cost the club an extortionate amount of money.
He could be the perfect summer signing.
