Tottenham Hotspur media round-up: Merson hits back in Townsend row

A round up of news stories this morning related to Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson has been quoted by BT Sport hitting back in the row against Tottenham star Andros Townsend.

Townsend was quick to respond to criticise from Merson on Twitter, following his short cameo performance for England where he scored against Italy.

Merson has defended his original suggestion that the midfield doesn’t cut a ‘top drawer’ standard.

“I think he should concentrate on playing football, to be honest - I am not going to sit here and say he is top drawer,” he said.

The Independent has reported that Tottenham striker Harry Kane will play in the under-21 European Championship this summer.

There was doubt over whether Kane would feature during the tournament, with Tottenham holding the fear he could quickly become burnt out.

England boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed that the striker has requested to attend the event personally.

Christian Eriksen has been quoted by the Sport Review reflecting on winning 50 international caps for Denmark.

The Dane reached the landmark during the international break, despite being just 23-years-old.

He’s suggested that he’s been lucky to have had the impact that he’s had so far over his career for his country.

“It’s always exciting to play for my national team and to already have 50 caps is very pleasing. I’m very lucky to have had the chance to get to 50 caps,” said the Dane.
