The iconic former Real Madrid icon and Brazilian legend thinks suggestions Gareth Bale is lazy are completely unjustified.
Gareth Bale has faced continual flack from the Spanish media in 2015, along with anger from a small group of fans, after Real Madrid lost the Clasico against Barcelona.
Opinions on the Welshman and his performances this season for Real Madrid, have been varied in Spain, to say the least. Given the whopping price paid to Tottenham, some feel he's not living up to expectations, with accusations of being a slacker, when it comes to his team-work.
During a radio interview on Cadena COPE show 'El Partido de las 12', there was strong backing for Bale from a former Real Madrid 'Galactico', legendary Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos, who enthused: "He's a player I really like."
As for fans and one or two Spanish media outlets suggesting Bale is a slacker, or not pulling his weight in the team defensively, using another legendary Brazilian star as a comparison to the Welsh star, the response from Roberto Carlos couldn't have been clearer: "Slacker? I've played alongside Rivaldo in the national team and people thought the same of him, but he helped me win 15 titles."
Currently the manager of Turkish side, Akhisar Belediyespor, the 41-year-old Brazilian also made the following observations about Bale: "He doesn't have much by the way of defensive characteristics. If you want to mark an opponent, that's what someone like Kroos is for, not Bale."
Regarding how progress with his current managerial role is going in Turkey, Roberto Carlos joked: "If I had the stars Real Madrid have on their bench, in my current team, we'd be champions every season."
