Report: Mehdi Abeid to start for Newcastle United against Sunderland in Wear-Tyne derby

Mehdi Abeid will reportedly start for Newcastle United against Sunderland in the Premier League on Sunday.

Newcastle United head coach John Carver will include Mehdi Abeid in the starting line-up against Sunderland in the Wear-Tyne derby on Sunday, according to The Northern Echo.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been struggling with a thigh injury of late and missed the Premier League games against Everton (away) and Arsenal (home) last month.

The youngster has returned to training and is expected to be fit for Sunday’s Premier League clash against the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light.

It has now been reported by The Northern Echo that Carver will start Abeid in what promises to be a fiercely competitive derby game.

The Algerian will take the place of Vurnon Anita in defensive midfield for Newcastle, according to the report.

Good move?

Abeid seems to be rated highly by Carver, and if the youngster is fully fit, then it would not be a bad idea to deploy him from the start against Sunderland.

Anita has struggled to impress this season, while Abeid has done the job whenever he has been thrown into action.

The Algerian has made nine Premier League appearances so far this season, creating one chance and having a pass accuracy of 82% in the process.

Newcastle are currently 12th in the Premier League table with 35 points from 30 matches.
