Sherwood has made a good start to life at Villa Park but the team will head into the game at Old Trafford as the heavy underdogs to pull through with a positive result at the end of 90 minutes.
“That'll be a real test for Tim Sherwood to see how he's got his team playing now, if they can go there and get something from the game,” said Parlour.
If Villa get a result against United, it could mean a number of things for the club and send Sherwood several positive messages.
They’ll need immense mental strength to get through the game considering the imposing nature of United in their current form.
The players need to stay positive and a lot will rely on the more experienced players in the team to keep others motivated to ensure Villa’s mentality isn’t one of them thinking they have been beaten before the game has started.
If Villa get a result, they will also need to take a lot of pressure considering the quality United have and the chance that they will dominate possession.
The defence and midfield will need to be extremely well organised to withstand that pressure and it would tell Sherwood that his players have the intelligence to go into any similar game with an ability to structure themselves effectively.
Villa have a little bit of a gap above the bottom three and this could be the final mental boost the side needs over the rest of the season.
