Paul Merson predicts Tottenham drop points to Burnley

Former Arsenal midfielder does not expect Tottenham to get all three points against Burnley.

SkySports pundit Paul Merson is tipping Tottenham Hotspur to drop points against Burnley this weekend.

The former Arsenal midfielder believes Burnley will claim a draw against Mauricio Pochettino's sides, calling a 1-1 final score.

He believes Andros Townsend will be a real dangerman for Tottenham, a player who he had criticised only recently, yesterday telling the Daily Star the winger must concentrate on his football rather than his own analysis of him.

Merson said: "Sean Dyche will have to find a way of stopping Harry Kane, who is on fire at the moment, and they will also have to cope with a confident Andros Townsend after his goal for England against Italy.

"But as Burnley proved against Manchester City, they are no pushovers at home and this will be a difficult test for Spurs. It’s a hard game for both sides and I cannot separate them."

The match is a contest both sides will be desperate to win at a crucial stage of the season. Spurs are battling to finish in the top four, but are already six points back.

Burnley meanwhile are trying to stave off relegation, currently sitting in the drop zone, one point from safety, hot on the heels of Sunderland.

Dyche's side have won four games at home in the league this season, drawing five and losing six - only the 15th best home record in the league.

Spurs have the seventh best away record, winning seven games, drawing two and losing five, winning three of their last six games on their travels, but also losing three, and their form therefore is tricky to read heading into the fixture, with their last away game a terrible performance against Manchester United.
