Massimo Cellino gave a very short and very brief assessment of the contract situation surrounding Neil Redfearn and the club’s younger players when he spoke to Simon Austin, as covered in his blog post.
Cellino has been away from the club due to the ban imposed on him by the Football League and he simply replied ‘There’s no rush’ when the freelance journalist pushed him over his thoughts on key decisions at Leeds United.
Cellino maintains a firm grasp over everything that is going on at Leeds United and it will be interesting to see if the future of Neil Redfearn is dealt with swiftly at the end of the season, should Cellino return.
Plenty of fans will feel as though Redfearn deserves an offer of long term commitment from Leeds, due to the positive work he has done consolidating and developing the side so far during his spell as manager.
He’s given several younger players the confidence that they can compete at Championship level and that they can handle the pressure of representing one of the biggest clubs in the country.
For the positive work and situation he’s created to continue he needs to be offered a new deal which keeps him in place, and it would be remarkable if that doesn’t come about before the new season gets underway.
Whether it’s Cellino who deals with the matter when he returns or another official at the club, Redfearn’s contract is one of several important decisions and signs of commitment which need to be made.
